Brew Review - Moose Drool
Tonight, from Big Sky Brewing Co. of Missoula, Montana, I bring you Moose Drool:
The beer smells of very rich and creamy malts. Very little hops in the nose. It smells almost like a starter porter.
The pour is dark brown with ruby red highlights. A decent light brown head sits briefly atop, then dissipates leaving no trace.
The Moose Drool tastes about like it smells. It has some very rich, sweet malts accented by a little light chocolate and some coffee. It closes with a bit of a nutty flavor and just enough citrus flavor hops and some mild bitterness to finish things off. Interestingly, in the aftertaste I get more coffee and a little tart grapefruit. It’s quite tasty. I have to admit, I like it a lot.
The beer has a pretty creamy mouthfeel. It is smooth with very pleasant carbonation.
Overall, I have to say this is a winner for me. It’s a very drinkable beer. I can easily see a session of this stuff in my future. If you are the sort that just needs to have hops overload, you’ll have to look elsewhere. This is a brown ale, and a damn fine one. If you like a nice sub-porter dark ale, I suggest you pick up a Moose Drool and enjoy.
