Update on the kegging funds

You may or may not remember that I’ve decided I hate bottling beer. I also decided to do something about it. I’ve decided to start kegging at least some, half, or most of my beer. I’ve also decided this is a good project to take on with funds other than family budget funds. I’ve also decided I liked running up a bankroll playing poker a few years ago. Finally, I’ve decided I’m not sick of poker any more.

I’m playing poker, trying to raise enough money to put together a kegging system. This is my ‘Keg Quest’. I figure a cool grand should be plenty to put together a pretty kick-ass system. I haven’t decided what to do yet, but I’ll figure that out when I get there. It’ll either be a store-bought unit with a 2-faucet upgrade, or a larger keezer project where I’ll convert a chest freezer into a kegged beer dispenser. I’ll probably go with the freezer conversion because whatever I do, it will likely be located in the garage due to lack of space in the house proper. Plus, a keezer could be up to a 5-tap unit. No brainer, right? Probably.

So, I started out on my little quest on August 28th with $380.83 left over from a previous life of poker playing on-line and a little screwing around earlier this year. I now have $446.47. Not much progress, but I haven’t been playing all that much. I should play more. Plus, I started off running pretty bad. Things have gotten a bit better of late. At some point 44 stops flopping sets against my kings. Right? Right.

I’m also keeping a very conservative bankroll. I’m playing NL hold’em primarily, and it is a relatively new game to me, at least in the cash game setting. I’ve played a lot of NL tournaments, but I was a limit cash game specialist in the old days. These days, the better games seem to be no limit. I’m learning a lot at these micro-limits, but it does take forever to make any progress towards my goal. As I move up, assuming I don’t get stomped, it will go quicker. I can see one thing is definite - the games are tougher than they used to be, even at my current tables.

I’m currently playing .05/.10 blind NL poker - usually hold’em. I’ll move up when I have 2500 x the big blind for each level offered, or $625 to go to .10/.25, and so on. That’s 25 buy-ins at each level.

I plan to leave enough money in my account when I’m finished with this quest to play decent stakes. That means I’ll probably need to run my balance up to $2K or so before I withdraw my keg money. I’m in for a long haul.

Alright. Time to get to work.
