Brew Review - Hopsickle Imperial India Pale Ale
Tonight’s beer review is Hopsickle IIPA from Moylan’s. Unfurtunately, my photo suffered an untimely death, so we’ll have to suffer through without.
I bought this bomber a few weeks ago. I keep meaning to get to it and a few others, but they are all big ol’ beers and I just haven’t had the time to devote to a review. I found that this very beer placed first at the GABF in the IIPA category. I can’t wait any longer. So, the people who know how to properly judge beer really like it, but the public is awaiting my review. HA! I’ll tell you what I think anyway:
The pour is a nice clear orangish color with a thin off-white head that dissipates fairly quickly.
The beer smells of floral, pine and some spice. It certainly smells like a hops bomb. Let’s taste.
Yep, hop bomb. Wow is this thing hoppy. I’ll tell you right now, if you sort of like hops, pass on this one. Your taste buds may explode. If you love hops, test yourself with this one. Honestly, it is all I can handle. Wow. It actually starts out with a nice sweet caramel flavor, but quickly gives way to citrus and sappy, oily pine hops, and loads of them. It finishes with more of all the hops flavors in the back of my throat and a bit of an alcohol burn. It’s quite a kicker at 9.2% ABV. It tastes absolutely great, but is definitely a once in a while brew for me. It’s just way too big for me to handle more than one at a time. Plus, I need to give my tongue time to replace the several expired taste buds.
Mouth feel on this puppy is about as full as it gets for the style. Carbonation is not terribly high.
Overall, this was quite a treat. It’s a sipping beer with incredible flavor. Enjoy this one.
