A Pale Ale I’m looking forward to
I finally bottled up a five-gallon batch of a new pale ale recipe I put together. I don’t have the exact date handy, but I pitched yeast on this puppy probably over two months ago - over the holidays I believe. I’m a bit nervous about carbonation, but it should be fine.
This beer may just turn out to be one the smoothest, tastiest pale ale I’ve ever tasted. I doubt it will have enough hop character to overthrow the likes of Firestone Walker as my favorite, but it should be an excellent homebrew. My one concern, other than carbonation, is that is may turn out a bit too smooth.
This one used a mix of Galena hops for bittering, and Cascades for flavor. I can’t wait to pop a cap late this month.
The kegging system funds are coming along very nicely. Horse racing is sort of waning, just because my testing takes so darn long since I can’t play races during the week. If only I had access to an on-line betting outfit with a conditional betting feature, I’d be golden. But, I’m stuck having to watch the tote board and load bets as the horses reach the gate. Can’t do that at work, and weekends are often so busy I can’t even catch many races then. Add that to the fact that I have to handicap the races even for the days I can’t play because I need the data, and it becomes quite a burden. I hope to keep it up until I get the ability to place conditional wagers, but I’m just not sure.
Poker, on the other hand, is awesome. I won’t get into it much here and now, but suffice to say, this will fund a kegging system and more. For the uninitiated, I will provide details on how to get started the correct way in a post in the next couple of days. If you are not currently playing on-line, do not get started before I post on the topic. You will not get the best possible deals if you just find a site and sign up. Believe me, wait a couple days. Also, if you are a bad poker player or a non-poker player and are interested in improving or getting started, either on-line or down at the casino, I’ll do some mild coaching on how to start down a path to success. It certainly is not an easy game, but it is not terribly difficult to get to the point you can beat small buy-in games.
