Brew Review - Tallgrass Ale
So I’m going to be given the opportunity to try several beers over the next year that I would not otherwise have access to. These are Beer Of The Month beers. I am not a member, but somebody I know was given a membership and is going to give me a bottle of each. What a guy, eh? I have too much of my own homebrew to get through these days, so I’m not really buying beer any more, other than to sample certain styles that I’m trying to perfect. This should be a treat.
First up was an English Brown Ale from Tallgrass Brewery - Manhattan, Kansas. Tallgrass Ale:
The beer is a standard nice-looking brown ale. The head is not thick and dissipates fairly rapidly. My English Browns so far suck mildly and have no head, so I’m impressed at this point. It is a ruby brown color.
Scents are sweet malt, some graham cracker and a little spice and burned coffee.
The beer tastes great. It is sweet malts, some toffee and a little dark fruit mixed with a touch of dark chocolate and some bitter coffee. It finishes with a bit of an earthy/spicy bitterness that is in balance with the rest. Nice.
Mouth Feel is proper for the style. It is light on the tongue, but still a little creamy.
Overall, this is a nice representation of the style in my opinion. It is sessionable at under 5%. I’d be a satisfied customer.
