Brew Review - Boont Amber Ale
It is my pleasure to introduce Boont Amber Ale from Anderson Valley Brewing Company, Boonville, California:
Appearance: The beer pours a very dark copper color with a decent tan head that dissipates fairly quickly. This beer has the look of a richly flavored brew. The danger with this look is a very malty, under-hopped beer. We’ll see….
Smell: As expected with the appearance, the smell is dominated by sweet malty scents. If you can imagine beer flavored candy, this is what it would smell like.
Taste: Home Run! Fears of an over-malted, under-hopped beer are immediately put to rest. I was greeted right away with very rich caramel overriding flavor with some toasted grains and molasses also represented. It is every bit as sweet as I was expecting, but, thankfully, it is also very nicely hopped for a pleasing, balanced flavor and smooth finish. The middle offers up some peppery spice and there is just a bit of lingering hops aftertaste - just as it should be.
Mouth Feel: This is a medium/full bodied ale. The carbonation is perfect, and it sits well on the tongue. Very smooth and nice full flavors all the way down.
Overall: The Boont Amber Ale is a pleasure to drink - A very nice effort from the brewer. It is flavorful and robust, but smooth with no harshness to it at all. I look forward to reducing this part of my inventory. Highly recommended.
Enjoy your beer,
