Brew Review - Gordon Biersch Pilsner
Updated tasting 9/24/2007 as I clear out old bottls from the beer fridge
My next beer review is the Gordon Biersch Pilsner.
Appearance: The beer pours crystal clear yellow-gold. A nifty little white head is fed constantly by the ever-present bubbles. It’s a nice looking Pilsner.
Smell: Floral and spicy hops. I smell no malt, but that’s not all that strange.
Taste: There is a bit of toasted oat malty flavor and even a bit of sweetness underneath, but this one is definitely dominated by hops. The hops start in the beginning and they get more pronounced through the aftertaste as the already understated malt flavors dissipate. It isn’t necessarily that the hops is overly strong, but there is just not much malt for balance. The beer finishes with a spicy hops flavor and just a little bitterness in the aftertaste that lingers a bit.
Mouth Feel: This has decent body for the style. It isn’t all watery. It isn’t thick either, but a nice medium/light. Carbonation is right on and it tastes good throughout.
Overall: This is a solid Pilsner. It will never be my favorite style, but I’m more of an ale guy. That said, I’d gladly drink another. And go get you some garlic fries!
Enjoy your beer,
