Ramping up Almaden KG Brewery

The Almaden KG Brewery is undergoing a little construction.  I returned home tonight with a new cooler to destroy and some hardware to turn it into a mash tun.  Yes, the all grain brewing disaster is ramping up.  I need to get a replacement part tomorrow and then test out the current design.  If this one falls short I’ll go to Plan B.  Plan B involves a lot of PVC pipe.  Plan A involves disecting a water line.  I think Plan B may have been the way to go.  We’ll see when the water test is finished, hopefully over the weekend.

Assuming the mash tun checks out with a passing grade, I’ve still got some shopping to do.  I want to be able to boil a 5 gallon batch, so I’ll need a gas outdoor burner and a big brewing pot.  I’ll also need another pot for mashing and sparging water.  I’ve got a getto setup in the works for now.  If I ever get any good at this and want to work towards professional status, I’ll upgrade someday.  For now, I plan to make a huge mess.

As for the pale ale currently in secondary fermentation, that’ll be bottled this weekend.  I’ll let is sit next week and then the following week while I’ll be in San Diego with the family enjoying Lego Land and everything else San Diego is known for.  After that, I’ll crack one open and see if I kept the wild ickies away.
