Brew Review - Butte Creek Organic IPA
As promised, tonight I bring you my next IPA, Organic IPA from Butte Creek Brewing Company:
If you’ll recall from my last review, Butte Creek has allowed Bison to move in with them. I was interested to see how the Butte Creek Organic IPA compares with the Bison version of the style. Well, let’s see:
The beer pours an attractive cloudy orange color with a smallish off-white head. Tons of lacing is left behind on my glass.
The smells off the crack of the cap are floral and pine hops with a fair malt representation. It is not a huge ball of scents, but pleasant.
The first flavor I got was of sweet malt, but in true IPA fashion, those were quickly pushed aside for the dominant hops flavors mid-way through. The hops are primarily of the citrus and pine variety. There is a bit of a puckering tartness on the end and a hint of aspirin in the aftertaste. While dominant, the hops flavors don’t really grab and hold on. They sort of pass through after stopping for a little chat. I guess what I’m saying is, while this is a very flavorful IPA, it is also an extremely drinkable IPA - definitely quaffable. But be mindful of the alcohol. This is 7.1% ABV and you’ll never see it coming.
The mouthfeel is somewhat slippery, but definitely not watery. Carbonation is on the high side and gives that little bite just as the tartness kicks in. It all works together very well. This beer gives me the impression it was well thought out and carefully crafted.
Overall, I’d gladly drink this beer again.
Enjoy your beer,
