Brew Review - Skinny Dip Beer

Tonight’s beer review is a summer offering from New Belgium Brewing - Skinny Dip Beer:

The Skinny Dip is another summer beer with “stuff” in it. If you’ve been reading this blog very long, you know how I feel about “stuff” in my beer. It has to take a back seat and play a supporting role, letting the beer be beer. I enjoy fruits and other flavors as long as they know their place. I do not want a wine cooler. Skinny Dip has something called kaffir lime leaf in it. How did it do?

The nose on this one is light sweet malt and floral hops. The scents are light and pleasing.

The beer pours a very attractive light amber color with a nifty little pure white head atop. It laces well.

The first flavor is the light sweet caramel malts I smelled. The hops and citrus flavor take over after that. It’s a bit spice, a bit strange citrus. I don’t mean bad strange, I mean unfamiliar strange. It’s good. The kaffir lime flavor must be the “strange” flavor, and it does what I’d hoped; it plays a supporting role and fits into its slot nicely. The flavors are definitely on the light side, but they are pleasant and well balanced. I think they got what they were looking for.

The Skinny Dip has a perfect summer brew feel to it. It is light and crisp without being watery. It is smooth with medium carbonation.

Overall, if you are looking for something a little bit different that’s light, crisp and refreshing on a hot summer day, this is a good choice.

Enjoy your beer,

Brew Brain
