Brew Review - Lagunitas IPA

The first beer review from my latest crop from BevMo is the Lagunitas IPA:

It has been a while since my first Lagunitas beer, the Censored Ale. I enjoyed that one so much I can hardly believe I waited this long to try another of their beers. Well, wait no more. Here we go:

The beer smells great off the crack of the cap. There are sweet malts and hoppy floral scents. This has got to be good.

It pours a very nice orange-amber color with a big thick sticky off-white head atop. The head stayed strong for quite a while and I may never get the lacing off my glass.

The first part of the sip is sweet caramel and biscuit malts. These are followed up by the expected hops - pine and light citrus. None of the flavors are overpowering like in many IPA’s. This is a very well-balanced, drinkable and enjoyable IPA. It is light tasting and refreshing with a dry finish. Well done.

This beer is an easy medium body, a little creamy and perfect carbonation. Smooooth for an IPA.

Overall, this was a very enjoyable beer tasting. The flavors are well-balanced with less of a hop tilt than a lot of the IPA’s I’ve tasted, but plenty to satiate the tastebuds of most hop heads. Recommended.
