Late night mash

I mashed up a new pale ale recipe I found and brewed it tonight.  In place of the failed CPVC manifold with drilled holes from the previous version of my mash tun, I opted for the steel braids.  I’ve got a double braid going.  It worked well.  I’ll take photos tomorrow.

The one problem I have is the drain is higher than I’d like.  It leaves about a quart behind.  I tipped it up and drained that last quart during the boil and added it.  I forgot to strain it, so hopefully I didn’t cause anything bad to happen.  In the end, I got about 72% efficiency and didn’t have to go to the siphon, so not bad.

I used hops pellets this time.  What a mess!  I just dumped the entire boil through a strainer and into the fermenter.  Well, my OG sample was full of crud.  I guess I’ll be dry hopping in primary.
