Brew Review - Duke’s Big Ass Beer (Hefeweizen)

Tonight’s beer review is Duke’s Big Ass Beer.  Generally, even if I really don’t like a beer, I can see that the brewer at least put some effort into the product and tried to create something that people would like. I’m not so sure this time.

The best feature of this beer is the bottle. It is a 33 ounce swing-top bottle. Nice and big to catch me up on my bottle inventory from the past few days fighting a cold. We head downhill from there.

The nose is light, sweet wheat malt.

The beer pours a quite clear (filtered) gold color with a thin white head that dissipates quickly.

The most critical part of any beer review is the tasting. This one, quite honestly, fails any reasonable test. This is a straight forward, uninteresting, aluminum flavored wheat beer with a hint of hops on the end. I just don’t see much effort going into the product here. It is a gimmicky packaging job. That’s about it. I swear I can taste that liquid malt extract twang in there too. If you want light flavors of sweet wheat malt and aluminum can, and lots of beer in one bottle, I think I’ve found the beer for you. Otherwise, please move along.
